Depression: insomnia can be caused by psychiatric disorders, such as depression. Psychological struggles can make it difficult to sleep, insomnia itself can cause changes in mood, changes in hormones and physiology may lead to both psychiatric disorders and insomnia, at the same time.
Sleep problems can be represented to be a symptom of depression, and the risk of severe insomnia is much greater in patients with major depressive disorders. Studies show that insomnia can also trigger or worsen depression.
It is important to know that the symptoms of depression (such as lack of energy, loss of interest or motivation, feelings of sadness or hopelessness) and insomnia may be linked.
Anxiety: most adults have had some problems sleeping because they feel worried or nervous, but for some it is a pattern that interferes with sleep on a regular basis. Symptoms of anxiety which can lead to insomnia include:
- Get caught up in thoughts about past events.
- Excessive worry about future events.
- Feel overwhelmed by responsibilities.
- A general feeling of being accelerated or stimulated.
It is not hard to see why these symptoms of general anxiety can make it difficult to fall asleep. The anxiety may be associated with insomnia (difficulty sleeping) home, or insomnia (waking up during the night and not be able to go back to sleep) maintenance. In any case, the lack of quiet activity at night often in stressful thoughts brought or even fears that keep a person awake.
Lifestyle: Insomnia can be activated or have perpetuated by their behaviors and patterns to the sleep. Unhealthy lifestyles and poor sleep habits can create insomnia on their own (without any underlying medical or psychiatric problem) or can be made that insomnia is caused by another problem worse. An example of how the lifestyles and specific sleep habits can lead to insomnia is if you’re a shift worker (which means that you work irregular hours). The non-traditional hours can confuse your body clock, especially if you are trying to sleep during the day, or if your schedule changes periodically.
